2025 To-Do List: Property Tax Homeowners’ Exemption

The second installment of property taxes in San Diego County are due April 10th. As you’re looking at your bill, check to make sure you’ve claimed your Homeowners’ Exemption if it’s for your primary home. By claiming this $7,000 exemption, you will save $70 a year. If you haven’t claimed it (many in the County haven’t), you can do so via email or mail. The deadline is February 15th so at this point you have until December 10th to file and get 80% of the savings. If you miss the deadline, you will not be able to file. According to California State law, Homeowners' Exemptions cannot be granted for prior years.
